Get Powered Up With These Yoga Postures

Having trouble getting motivated? Feeling sluggish? We have all experienced this to some degree. When we feel fatigued and unmotivated, it could be possibly due to stagnant energy. Energy that is stagnant can be quickly remedied, naturally, without having to reach for that hot cup of java (although caffeine does have its place). Instead of reaching for that cup of coffee, I would highly recommend a quick yoga fix of Warrior asanas to get you powered up and motivated.

The Warrior asanas are heart-opening postures that are focused on opening the heart through extending and expanding. This helps to ease tension in your torso and facilitates more mobility towards the chest area. Heart-opening yoga postures involve extreme, or subtle back bends, as well as lengthening of the spine, which all helps to stimulate blood flow --thus letting energy freely flow throughout the entire body.

In the past, when I first began practicing yoga, the Warrior postures were my least favourite! Now, after many years of practice, I've become more aware than ever of the great benefits they have to offer, such as enhancing the awareness between mind and body, increasing confidence and energy, and building strength and stability.

Note: Before entering any of the following postures, I recommend you warm up your spine by moving in and out of cat/cow postures, or you could do a few rounds of Sun Salutations.

Virabhadrasana (Warrior l):

Virabhadrasana is a great pose for opening up the hips, building on your strength and stability, and increasing blood flow throughout your body. Practicing this pose will stretch the chest, and strengthen shoulders, arms, thighs, calves and ankles.

Just relax those shoulders and reach for the sun!

Virabhadrasana ll (Warrior ll):

This is a great pose to help stimulate abdominal organs and increase stamina. Also, for all of those mamas-to-be out there, this pose is great during pregnancy, as it helps to relieve backaches throughout your 2nd and 3rd trimesters!

Don't be afraid to take up space in this posture! Extend those arms, and feel the steadiness beneath your feet, and the strength in your core. You are a warrior!

Viparita Virabhadrasana (Reverse warrior):

This is a great posture to connect with your stability and core strength! By practicing this posture, you are opening up the side torso in a deep stretch, which allows energy to flow through easily to energize the body.

Don't forget to breathe deeply into the space you're creating with this stretch!

These 3 powerful asanas are sure to get the blood flowing and have you feeling energized after practice! Ditch the caffeine and give these a try instead!
